Green New Deal for the North East? Policy Workshop

11 November 2009 09:00 - 04:00

Location: Exhibition Space, Great North Museum, Claremont Road, Newcastle University

The idea of “Green New Deal” is being widely discussed around the world and promoted by the United Nations, nationally by such as the Japanese government and by state and local government in the US. The Green New Deal raises the prospect of a new model of development incorporating policies for the shift to a low carbon economy with reforms to improve the stability of the financial and economic system and the achievement of broader social objectives. The aim of this day long seminar is to explore these ideas in the context of the North East. The themes of the conference include: climate change and the North East, technological and market opportunities in the low carbon economy and financing and planning the Green New Deal.

  • Prof. Paul Younger (Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Newcastle University);
  • Paul Mooney (Chief Economist, One NorthEast);
