Matthew Lumsden – Managing DirectorMatthew Lumsden, Managing Director

Previously a director of energy consultancy TNEI Services, Matthew has 15 years consultancy experience built up from working on public and private sector projects within the low carbon sector.

With a broad technical, strategic and commercial understanding of the low carbon sector Matthew's strengths lie in building strong and diverse relationships to develop and deliver innovative solutions and projects.

Matthew is involved in a range of strategic low carbon vehicle related projects focusing on infrastructure design, vehicle development and deployment, business model development and stakeholder engagement.

Ian McDonald – Technical DirectorIan McDonald, Technical Director

With over 30 years Automotive experience spanning Leyland bus and truck division, Formula one and motorsport and most recently as Chief engineer – Electrical at Lotus engineering, a position he held for 9 years, Ian brings a wealth of knowledge to the group, with regards to on-board vehicle systems and technologies.

Based in Oslo for a period of 2 years working on the TH!NK E.V project, as well as contributing to other Hybrid and E.V projects including Ecotricity’s ‘Zero Carbonista’ sports car programme, Ian provides essential catalyzing skill sets, specialising in the integration of low carbon transport systems and linking those to the off-board charging and information networks.

In addition, Ian has been involved in the development of large scale power storage systems, to assist renewable integration and electricity grid support schemes.

Ian is responsible for technology development strategy within Future Transport Systems, with respect to the provision of consultancy services specialising in gap-filling technologies around the adoption and implementation of a sustainable low-carbon transport infrastructure.

John Austin – Senior Project ManagerJohn Austin, Senior Project Manager

John has over 20 years automotive project, engineering & operations management experience within OEM and Tier1. A Senior Project Manager, he has been responsible for successfully delivering major programmes including full vehicle developments.

Complementing a mechanical engineering background, John has an MBA from Durham University Business School. His strengths lie in strategy development & deployment, particularly with respect to large and complex programmes and project organisations.

John is managing Switch EV ultra low carbon vehicle development & user trial programmes focussing on maximising programme deliverables and value across the private and public stakeholder group.

Liz Gray – Senior ConsultantLiz Gray, Senior Consultant

Liz has 7 years experience working in the development of sustainable transport in the UK. A specialist in developing integrated, low carbon travel solutions, her expertise spans transport planning, specialising in car clubs and electric vehicles.

Following a history degree, Liz has worked for start up companies pioneering low carbon transport opportunities. As well as developing business development skills, marketing and stakeholder engagement have become areas of specialism.

Liz is managing the deployment of electric vehicles and planning the development of the associated recharging infrastructure. She is also managing the communications and marketing for the projects, and positioning electric vehicles within the sustainable transport mix.




Patrick Harper - ConsultantPatrick Harper - Consultant Patrick is a recent graduate of Northumbria University where he studied Business with Marketing. Receiving a first in his degree, he obtained an excellent understanding of marketing strategy, communications and business development.

Since graduating, Patrick has been working for a business start-up and been involved in the creation and implementation of a number of communications campaigns as well as successfully developing business relationships with a variety of companies throughout the North East.

Robin Haycock - AssociateRobin Haycock - AssociateRobin is an associate of FTS and Head of Transport for The Climate Group which is an independent, not-for-profit organization working internationally with government and business leaders to advance smart policies and technologies to cut global emissions and accelerate a clean industrial revolution.


Previous to this role he worked within Government in the newly formed Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), seconded from industry to the Dept BIS and specialises in the auto sector.

Robin started his career as an apprentice with AEA Harwell, he went on to graduate from Bath University and worked in the motor industry for Jaguar Cars and then at specialist consultancies including Cosworth and AVL (Austria) finishing as Design and analysis manager for AVL in the UK, whilst also completing a part time MSc at Warwick University.

Robin moved from the automotive sector into energy consulting and transport roles within Arup, and during this period he has worked with a diverse range of clients to establish economic routes for sustainable transport in both retrofit environments and new planned eco cities.
